Sri Lankan Fish Ambul Thiyal (Sour Fish Curry)

If you’re a fan of tangy, bold flavors, this Fish Ambul Thiyal recipe will become a favorite. Made with Delight Spicy Black Pepper and Turmeric, this traditional Sri Lankan dish is known for its punchy taste and sour notes from goraka.

Ingredients:

  • 500g firm fish (tuna works best), cut into cubes
  • 2 tsp Delight Spicy Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Delight Spicy Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp goraka (or tamarind) paste
  • 4 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1-inch ginger, sliced
  • 1 tsp Delight Spicy Mustard Seeds
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the fish with Delight Spicy Turmeric Powder, Black Pepper, salt, and goraka. Let it rest for 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add Delight Spicy Mustard Seeds, curry leaves, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until fragrant.
  3. Gently add the marinated fish and green chilies to the pan. Stir carefully to coat the fish in the spices.
  4. Cover and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the sauce is thick.
  5. Serve with rice or string hoppers for a traditional Sri Lankan experience.
